Tobogan - 29th week

25LIP

Honza spent his week off doing a paragliding course and on Monday got his pilot’s licence so he can now rule the airspace over our beautiful mountains. Check out the video. Personally, I’d rather stick to the ground, but well done Honza! On Monday we held our first training session for the Ostrava Marathon Relay in September. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo, but let’s just say we looked something like this. Thanks to Honza, Kamila, Marina and Osa on joining me for this enjoyable first session, which we managed to finish just as the heavens opened. Many of us were suffering from a post-Colours hangover on Monday, but it was Juraj’s birthday, and we were cheered up by the traditional birthday goodies he supplied for our delectation: FOTO. On Monday we also had a visit from a lady from OTIDEA in Prague who we are working with on some new software for the Czech government. I’m sure a lot happened during the rest of the week at NAR, and I’m sure everybody was as busy as usual, but I haven’t received an awful lot of information. However, I can tell you that Jiří was on the road, first to Olomouc on Wednesday for a meeting at City Hall, and then to Karolina to buy new mobiles for our new colleagues. On Thursday he went to Prague by train with Karel for a meeting about the certification of PROEBIZ software, as required under new Czech law. On Friday he had a big meeting with the IT team. Tom reports that he spent the week at the Adriatic, but since Marina had arranged such a heavy workload for him, he only had time to spy the sea from a distance. His work finished every day practically after dark, and he says he had no desire for night-swimming (unlike REM). He did manage a dip in the pool in his “penzion” in Rijeka on Wednesday though, but it was only 3x8 metres – not exactly the Adriatic! On Thursday he had the hardest day, with two meetings in Rijeka in the morning, and then on to Zagreb where he had appointments with several personnel agencies to discuss the possibility of recruiting new staff for Croatia. He finished at about four-thirty, still facing a six-hour drive home. Somehow he forgot to check the speed-limit, and on leaving Zagreb received the attention of the local cops. However, he didn’t have any money on him, and after a while arguing was let go without a fine! On Thursday Marie and her friend went for dinner to Delphi, a Greek restaurant on 28. října, which she says was excellent. I’ve been there as well, and can only agree. If you like Greek food, it’s the place to go! Now I hope to get a free meal next time I go there. What else…? On Thursday I discovered that the door next to my desk in Houston isn’t in fact just a cupboard as I had believed, but the entrance to a hidden secret chamber, maybe even to Narnia… On Friday it was nice to see Lenka. Her double-bump is hardly showing yet, though that’s sure to change in the near future ;-) Anyway, now for the weekend: This is how Andrea found Tobias after a holiday with his elder brother: FOTO. Fortunately it was fixed with shampoo and a shower. Marina was a witness at her friend’s wedding in Olomouc. What’s unusual about it, for me anyway, is that the bride drove herself there: FOTO. Jiri and his family went to the “Kryštof Camp” at Hukvaldy, which he says was fantastic: FOTO and FOTO. František reports he was in Slovakia at the weekend with his girlfriend, on a trip to the High Tatras. They were at "Zelené pleso": FOTO. What about my weekend, I’m sure you’re all asking? For some reason I decided I wanted to be up Lysa hora on Saturday morning at 4:39am: FOTO. Oh yes, I remember, I wanted to see this: FOTO. Sunrise from Lysa, a sight to behold! I wasn’t alone, I counted at least 60 other early birds up there: FOTO. After breakfast, I spent the rest of the day on my bike, first in the Czech Republic: FOTO - The renovation of Šance, as won in a PROEBIZ tender. And then to Slovakia: FOTO, and finally on to Poland: FOTO, at Trojmezí. Btw. Morki still has a girlfriend :) Have a good week! Malcolm
